Sure, it is a time for fun and frivolity, not to mention drinking until you can't tell the difference between "Blessed be Mordechai" and "Cursed be..." that other guy.
But Purim is also a very serious holiday. The 19th-century Hasidic Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kotzk is quoted as having told his students that "all of the holidays are included in Purim."
