President Einstein?

Following the death of the Israel's first president in 1952, then-Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion decided to approach a certain physicist at Princeton University to replace the late Chaim Weizmann. Albert Einstein regretfully declined the offer.

Letters of Note has published an image and transcript of the letter sent via the Embassy of Israel in Washington, which is signed by famed Israeli diplomat Abba Eben.

This is a fascinating historical document.
